Gitcoin bounties: what happened and where to look now

If you were looking for Gitcoin bounties, you will not find the old issue-bounty marketplace there anymore. Gitcoin now concentrates on grants, and the bounties side is handled elsewhere. This page explains the change and points to platforms that still list funded GitHub issues.

What changed at Gitcoin

According to Gitcoin support documentation, Gitcoin is discontinuing its hackathons and bounties program: that part of the business is taken over by Buidlbox, so Gitcoin can focus on Gitcoin Grants. The document gives no specific dates. Gitcoin still describes bounties as a task-based funding mechanism on its site, but its current product centers on grants rounds rather than individual issue rewards.

Grants are not bounties

A grant funds a project or team up front, often through matching rounds. A bounty pays a specific task after the work is delivered. If you want to be paid for fixing a GitHub issue, you want the second kind.

Where funded GitHub issues are listed now

Algora and Opire are the most active sources of pay-on-merge bounties in the BountyOS scan, with BountyHub and TaskBounty smaller. On 2026-09-20 the scanner tracked 290 verified open bounties worth $19,543 across them; see the current list on the live GitHub bounty board. Gitcoin-style Web3 bounties now live on Buidlbox, which we do not scan.

Another platform that stopped

Gitcoin is not the only one. Bountysource stopped paying claims and went down; see Bountysource alternatives. Before you spend hours on a bounty, check that the platform is active and who holds the money.
